about

"Do You See Me?" was written in the height of the 2020 lockdown, when everything imploded on itself and isolation enveloped the world. The song starts with a pulsating piano and a bed of ambient white noise. The arrhythmic vocals sound close and intimate, as if trying to say something that he's afraid to admit. As the song moves along, N. Sherman utilizes flutes, organs, and strings to a spellbinding effect, conjuring up images of leaves twirling in the wind.
As he sings of life and death, love and sorrow, togetherness and loneliness, he captures in his lyrics what 2020 lockdown brought for so many. But as he simply states in the song, "...maybe that's okay", he shows us that the sadness and loneliness isn't something to avoid, but to embrace and walk through.

lyrics

I thought life had just begun
Now the curtains are beginning to close
A snowflake into flame, ink on a black page
Half of my life could be over
What's left to be said?

It comes in shadows, in the flickering light
Mindless moments, at the end of the night
I thought I'd be more certain
That you'd love what you see
Do you see me?

I'm lighting my last cigarette
And she is sleeping downstairs in our bed
How can I be in love, and yet so alone?
Maybe she feels the same
Maybe that's okay...
